Introduction
Riteway Express (which is registered as Riteway Transport Pty
Limited) is an extremely successful medium sized road transport
business that focuses on picking up and delivering freight between
businesses (B2B). Riteway Express provides a national service
concentrating on moving freight between the mainland capitals
of Australia. It positions itself as a boutique business within
the industry and targets customers who require a high degree
of personalised service because of the value of their product
and the certainty or consistency of delivery, or a combination
of the two. The company is quality accredited to ISO 9001:2000
and has also been certified as an Investor in People (IiP) since
2002.
History
Riteway Express began as a privately owned road transport company
in 1981 and grew rapidly over the next six years achieving annual
revenues of $35 million. However despite its rapid growth it
experienced considerable losses which prompted a management
buy out in 1987. Soon after a process of aggressive restructuring
was initiated. The business was downsized in the late 1980’s
to annual revenues of $16 million and a break-even position
achieved. McPhee Transport purchased a majority share in Riteway
Express in 1988 and was itself later acquired by TNT Australia.
Throughout the 1990’s and into the 21st Century, the application
of prudent business disciplines and a focus on service excellence
has allowed Riteway Express to experience profitable growth
making returns well above the industry standard.
Current Structure and Performance
Today, Riteway Express is a fully owned subsidiary of TNT Australia Pty Limited which forms part of the pubicly listed TNT N.V. The company operates it's own depots in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and has management representation in Perth and Adelaide. For the distribution of freight outside of its own depots, Riteway Express utilises the resources of the vast TNT network of regional depots and country agents.
Riteway Express employs over 240 full time employees, contractors and temporary staff who are supported by a national management team located in Sydney. The company operates a fleet of some 100 vehicles ranging from 1 tonne vans to semi trailers and in 2007 moved over 1.2 million consignments and nearly 100 thousand tonnes of freight.
